How much does membership cost?
Membership costs £5 per term and may be paid termly or you may pay for all three terms at once.
When are rehearsals?
All rehearsals are Sundays 12-6pm, Mondays 6-10pm and Wednesdays 6-10pm.
Do I need to prepare anything for auditions?
No. All audition scripts are given on the day of the auditions, you will be given time to practise outside and then perform for the production team. All auditions run slightly differently depending on the teams, but prior preparation is not normally needed.
What do I need to bring to auditions?
Bring yourselves, some food and drink. We suggest comfortable clothing.
How do I know if I get cast?
LUTG have both auditions and then callbacks. Call backs will be announced on the official Lancaster University Theatre Group Facebook page the evening of the last day of auditions (usually a Sunday evening). Callbacks take place the next two evenings (usually Monday-Tuesday) from 6pm till 10pm. Wednesday night is casting night. You will need to keep your phone on your person and switched on from 6pm onward - you will be called up by the production team if you have been cast in a role.
What happens if I don’t get cast?
If you don’t get cast, don’t despair! We have many other opportunities to get involved: Shorts show (announced a week or so into term) and Performance Group. If you would like to try something different, we also have lots of opportunities backstage on each term show. Our Backstage Meeting is usually the Thursday 6pm till 10pm the same week.
What roles are there back stage?
The precise duties and responsibilities of each role varies team to team, show to show, but they are categorised as follows:
Some shows create new, more specific roles to best suit their show and its needs, so listen well to each team if you attend the Backstage Meeting. Who do I contact regarding Welfare?
The Society Chairperson is in charge of welfare, . You can find a list of exec roles and names here and on our Facebook page.
You can also contact any member of the Exec and we will pass it on to the correct member of the Exec to handle your query or issue. Can I still come to socials even if I’m not in a show?
Yes! We welcome and appreciate all our members, everyone is equal, whether you have been cast or not. Our socials are open to all, and we urge you to come along and have a good time.
Can I be in more than one society?
You can be in more than one society, but do remember that LUTG requires a lot of commitment if you get cast in a show. 14 hours a week are spent rehearsing. You need to be able to manage your time between social activities and uni work, if you’re finding it too hard, you’re probably doing too much.
How do I contact you?
You can contact us via email at: [email protected], or by messaging our Facebook page. This can be found at https://www.facebook.com/LUtheatregroup/.
